The first generation, Yonekichi (米吉), was born on October 15, 1852, as Morozumi Shonekichi (两角庄米吉), the second son of the family. At the age of 12, he was apprenticed to Obi Kurobe (小尾九郎兵衛), a top disciple of Fujii Jinkuro (藤井甚九郎) — the pioneer of Suwa saws. After completing his training, he further refined his skills in crafting carpenters' saws under Nakaya Shizaemon (中屋七左衛門). In the early years of the Meiji period, he returned to Tamagawa, Chino City, Nagano Prefecture to establish his own workshop. He changed his surname to Tanaka (田中) after marrying into the family as an adopted son of Yohachi Tanaka (田中与八) on February 28, 1875. The first-generation Tanaka Yonekichi (田中米吉) possessed superb craftsmanship, winning numerous awards and training approximately 20 blacksmiths in the Shinshu Suwa region. Following his passing at the age of 66, his eldest son, Tokichi Tanaka (田中藤吉), officially succeeded him as the second-generation Tanaka Yonekichi (田中米吉) on December 9, 1917. Later, Tokichi's eldest son, Imaakichi Tanaka (田中今昭吉), was born and became the third-generation Tanaka Yonekichi (田中米吉).
