There is some minor surface rust on the blade, but this does not affect its performance. This blade comes from the descendant of a retired Miyadaiku in the Tokyo area. I have sharpened it, taking the bevel up to about 6,000 grit (using an Uchigumori stone), and the ura (back) to about 3,000 grit. The only difference is that the face of this blade is engraved with the character “龍” (Ryu / Dragon).

This blade is crafted with a very high level of precision and uses high-quality watetsu. The mark “上'”(Jo / Superior) on the left side of the back likely indicates the use of premium jigane, according to Mr. Tsuchida. Additionally, there is a “日本鋼'”(Japanese Steel) mark in the center. Based on how it felt on the stones during sharpening, I don't believe it is traditional Japanese tamahagane steel, but the quality of the steel is undeniably excellent. Additionally, the wooden body (dai) is made from premium, naturally air-dried Japanese white oak (Shirogashi). The wood is in excellent structural condition, free from cracks, and shows no significant warping or twisting.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0692/0162/5326/files/DSF4004_a5c5432b-a422-46b0-915e-7fa1bbd281c2.jpg?v=1772672194
https://tenmoku0701.myshopify.com/ja/products/hira-ganna-japanese-smoothing-plane-by-tokyo-smith-84mm
