The first Masakuni was also the creator of the first bonsai scissors in Japan. The bonsai scissors he developed are Sentei-basami No.1 and are still in production by his descendants. The second generation masakuni's real name is Kawasumi Kanji (川澄寬二, 1923~2002). He was awarded the Yellow Ribbon Medal in 1994 for his research and development into scissors.
