The first Masakuni was also the creator of the first bonsai scissors in Japan. The bonsai scissors he developed are Sentei-basami No.1 and are still in production by his descendants. The second generation masakuni's real name is Kawasumi Kanji (川澄寬二, 1923~2002). He was awarded the Yellow Ribbon Medal in 1994 for his research and development into scissors. To commemorate this award, he opened the "Masakunirikikoshoguhamono" Museum introducing knives (tools). The third generation Masakuni (Kawasumi Hirokuni/川澄寬國, 1950~) currently serves as the director of the museum.
