Additional Information: It is a pre-owned tool from a retired carpenter. He mentioned that it was originally purchased at Tsuchida Hamono, so I personally brought the plane to Mr. Tsuchida for verification. Mr. Tsuchida confirmed that it was indeed sold at his shop. He identified the blacksmith of the blade as Komori and the dai -maker as Toda Yasuo (戸田保男) from the Tokyo area, who retired during the late Showa era.
Toda Yasuo is not widely known as a Tokyo-based maker of high-quality plane blocks, partly because he never left any marks or stamps of his own on his work. However, the craftsmanship of this piece speaks for itself. More of his works can be found in the book “Creating a plane platform—the establishment and development of a platform in Tokyo.”
The carpenter's maintenance skills were average, and the fit between the blade and the block is currently far too loose. To make it functional again, it requires restoration—specifically, shimming the bedding with paper before re-adjusting the fit.
