This saw comes from a carpenter in Chiba Prefecture and features nice craftsmanship and an elegant form. The tang and blade are forge-welded rather than electric welded. The blade was shaped by hand using a "Sen" , not ground by machine.
This specific type of saw has become rare following the rise of the double-edged Azebiki saw. It is traditionally used for cutting grooves in Kamoi (lintels) and making relief cuts (Sewari) in pillars.
When Mr. Tsuchida was performing the Metate (sharpening) on this saw, he posted a tweet on X describing the ideal wooden handle for it. I have seen this type of handle before; once I locate an actual example, I will upload it to the website.
