I have given it a basic sharpening: the bevel (kireha) has been honed up to 1000 grit, and the flat back (ura) up to 3000 grit. It was sourced from a now-closed professional tool shop in the Kanto region. The blade craftsmanship is excellent, featuring a classic Usu-ba (thin blade) profile.
Below the text stamp, there is a 'Kao' (stylized signature) stamp. Unfortunately, I was unable to identify the specific family this Kao belongs to, but it bears a close resemblance to the Tokugawa clan's Kao. According to online resources, this particular Kao design originated with the Tokugawa family. A prominent feature is the horizontal lines at the top and bottom, a style known as “明朝体/Minchotai“. It is said that from the Edo period onward, the Kao style used by the Tokugawa clan gained popularity among ordinary samurai, and also influenced certain court nobles and Buddhist monks.
For reference, the last picture shows the Kao (stylized signature) of the Tokugawa clan.
