“Masatsugu/正次“ is the last genno blacksmith in Tokyo, the blacksmith shop was near Yoshiwara Omon in Asakusa. Active in the early to mid-20th century. According to the information provided by Mr. Tsuchida Ichiro , his hammers are almost Haganetsuki.
His hammers are highly praised by carpenters in the Tokyo area. In addition, Mr. Tsuchida Noboru told me that when the second-generation Konobu blacksmiths received orders for hammers from customers, he would ask Masatsugu to make them. The famous genno master Kouzaburo once made a hammer to pay tribute to Masatsugu.
Mini genno is mainly used by metal engravers, and tsuchida shops use mini genno for ura dashi. Although ura dashi is slow with a small genno, it improves the uniformity of ura and reduces the risk of cracking the steel.
