Additional Information: This is a pre-owned plane sourced from a retired miyadaiku (temple carpenter) in the Kansai region.
The blade is an early work by blacksmith Sakata Haruo. While the front is stamped with a wholesaler’s brand, the reverse side of the iron bears Sakata’s own stamp ("坂田"). The stamp on the front, "高速度0号" (High Speed No. 0), indicates the blade steel; through my research, I confirmed this to be Tōgō Inukubi Reigō steel (東郷犬首零号鋼).
A similar blade was featured on this website, and I have translated their description of it below:
“A rare plane blade forged over 50 years ago using Tōgō Inukubi Rei-gō steel.
About a year ago, a former master carpenter brought in a well-worn blade of this exact model to have a wooden body (dai) made. When I test-planed with it, I was astonished by its sharpness.
It bites into the timber effortlessly, cuts light and thin, and holds its edge remarkably well without dulling—truly an exceptional plane.”
