Additional Information: The chisel has been used but remains in good condition. I have sharpened it, with both the bevel and ura (the flat back) shapen to approximately 1000 grit.
I discovered this piece at a vintage tool shop in Chiba. At the time of find, the original ebony handle and the ferrule (kuchigane) were severely aged and rusted. However, the blade still has a significant amount of life remaining. Although it bears no blacksmith’s mark, the precision of its craftsmanship strongly suggests it was made by a skilled blacksmith from the Kanto region. Regarding its specific application, I consulted with Mr. Tsuchida, who identified it as a tsuki nomi used by dai-ya (plane-body makers) for the fine-tuning of plane bedding surfaces.
