Additional Information: It is pre-owned but in good condition. The blade has been fully tuned—straightened and sharpened—by Mr. Tsuchida. This saw comes from the descendant of a carpenter in Hachioji, Tokyo.
I once visited a tool shop in Hachioji called Yagasaki Hamono-ten. Although it is now a standard local hardware store, the owner told me that they used to manufacture saws and perform Metate. Based on this, it is highly probable that this saw was originally sold by that shop.
The craftsmanship of this saw is excellent. The spine features an 'Iori-mune' (roof-shaped) finish, a detail traditionally found on Japanese swords.
The teeth are ”Ibara-me“. In the Kanto region style, this pattern is primarily designed for cross-cutting, but it is also capable of making diagonal cuts.
Based on my experience, I believe this saw was likely custom-ordered by a woodcarver. It appears to be designed specifically for roughing out carving blanks.
