Unlike several similar Kiyotada kiridashi knives recently listed, the tip of this knife is forged using the semaki (背巻き) technique.
Regarding the semaki technique, a post shared by Mr. Tsuchida notes:
“ In kuri-kogatana and kiridashi, semaki (forge-welding the steel by wrapping it over to one side) prevents the tip from flexing during use. The drawback is that it complicates three key processes: the forge-welding itself, straightening (kuri-naoshi) after heat treatment, and the rough grinding (ara-oroshi).”
The previous owner custom-made a comfortable wooden handle and a protective sheath for it. Based on its characteristics, it was likely originally sold by Tsuchida Hamonoten.
