Retired Kansai Region Carpenter's Used Grooving Plane Set

This tool set is a groove plane set from a carpenter in the Kansai region of Japan.They are used items and in good condition. Except for two white oak bodies, the others are made of high-quality red oak from the Kyushu region of Japan.

Tool set contents (starting from the top of the first photo):

1. Gotoku-Kanna(五徳鉋) Japanese Five Purposes Plane - 70mm. It weighs 708g. No maker marks but good quality and in good condition. It can be used as: left sided rabbet plane, right-sided rabbet plane, left grooving plane, right grooving plane, and a smoothing plane.

2. Wakitori- Kanna(脇取鉋). Japanese Groove side cutting plane - right, 24mm.  It weighs 600g. The plane body is made of white oak and ebony. The blade and plane body have a "菊刃紋" mark, which may indicate that they are from a wholesale brand in the Kansai region. It was used more frequently than the next Wakitori plane, but in good condition.

3. Wakitori- Kanna(脇取鉋). Japanese Groove side cutting plane - right, 24mm. It weighs 548g. It is a product from "トモエ木工/Tomoe-Mokkou“, a well-known woodworking plane body workshop in the Kansai region. It has been used lightly and is in good condition.

4: Sokotori- Kanna(底取鉋). Japanese Groove cutting plane - 21mm. It weighs 431g. This is the most frequently used of the four groove cutting planes, but in good condition and can still be used. The tail of the plane has been customized by the carpenter to make it more suitable for holding and pushing with one hand. It has no mark that shows the manufacturer.

5:  Sokotori- Kanna(底取鉋). Japanese Groove cutting plane - 18mm. It weighs 466g. It is a product from "トモエ木工/Tomoe-Mokkou“, a well-known woodworking plane body workshop in the Kansai region. It has been used lightly and is in good condition.

6:  Sokotori- Kanna(底取鉋). Japanese Groove cutting plane - 21mm. It weighs 567g. Although the mark is no longer clear, the inscription "梅弘特製/Made by Umehiro" can still be identified on the wooden body. This brand is from a wholesaler in the Kansai region of Japan. It's commonly found in Nobori Hamono stores. It has been used lightly and is in good condition.

7:  Sokotori- Kanna(底取鉋). Japanese Groove cutting plane - 30mm. It weighs 730g. The mark on the plane blade is "開運/Kaiun". It may be a wholesale brand in the Osaka area. It has been used lightly and is in good condition.
