Additional Information: It was sharpened once, but not used. This chisel came from one of my customers. Because its size was not suitable for his work, he decided to resell it to someone who needed it more.
The chisel had some oil stains on the "ura" side. I asked the customer what the oil stains were, and he said:" The wood chosen for the Saya is Port orford cedar- it often seeps small amounts of oil which in my experience actually helps prevent rust. It very possible that’s the oil you are seeing. Typically washes off with warm water before sharpening."
In addition, the adhesive used for the wooden sheath is Sokui (rice glue). Regarding the advantages of rice glue, he said:" The biggest advantage to rice glue is it can be reversed with hot water and the wood repaired." This aligns with the need for natural adhesives(fish glue or pigskin glue) in Ming-style furniture, which can be disassembled simply by using water when repairs are required.
