Additional Information: The chisel comes from a retired carpenter and has seen light use. I performed a basic sharpening, honing the bevel to 1,000 grit and the ura to 5,000 grit.
The carpenter originally purchased it from Tsuchida Hamono, a shop known to have sold third-generation Kanetake chisels for a period of time. I’ve confirmed this with Mr. Tsuchida, and he told methat 3rd-gen Kanetake chisels were well-made and high-quality steel.
During the sharpening process, the feedback suggested it is likely made of White Steel No. 2 (Shirogami 2). The quality is nice, though the heat treatment feels noticeably harder than that of the second-generation Kiyotada chisels.
