Additional Information: It has been used, but the blade is in good condition. It comes from a retired carpenter in the Tokyo area—the same craftsman who owned the Tsukiichihiro chisel set. The blade is an Usu-zukuri (thinly made) type, likely dating back to the early Showa period. It is crafted from high-quality Kamaji.
I have re-sharpened it, finishing the bevel with an Uchigumori natural stone, and the ura (flat side) has been honed to approximately 2000 grit. During sharpening, the iron base behaved beautifully, feeling incredibly soft, while the steel is hard yet retains toughness. It formed short, wire-like burrs during the process. I recommend it for working with softwoods or medium-density woods.
The wooden body (dai) is in mediocre condition and will require some time and tuning before it is ready for use.
Additionally, the coloration inside the urasuki (hollow ground) was not caused by high-temperature overheating. Rather, it is mild oxidation that occurred while I was sharpening the ura with a sintered diamond stone. Based on my experience, this discoloration will naturally fade away over time and with regular use.
