This chisel is preliminarily attributed to the 3rd-generation Ouchi. According to historical records on the 4th-generation Ouchi’s blog, after the passing of the 2nd generation in Showa 43 (1968), the maker's stamp was updated to "宗家 (Soka) / 大内 (Ouchi) / 登録 (Registered) / 柏印 (Oak leaf crest)." This chisel does not bear the "宗家" mark, pointing to an earlier production period.
Judging by its sharpening feedback, the steel quality is outstanding. During sharpening, it formed a continuous, elastic wire burr remarkably similar to that of Kiyotada chisels, though the steel feels slightly harder than Kiyotada. Currently, only basic preliminary sharpening has been completed; please hone it further according to your preferred sharpening progression before putting it to work.
