Additional Information: Used, from a retired carpenter. The custom 60mm Tataki chisel listed last month also came from this carpenter.
I sharpened the bevel to 400 grit, and the Ura to about 6000 grit. This chisel has not been used much and has rusted. The Ura is in good condition.
It is a very rare custom thick Chu Tataki chisel. Because this chisel is beyond the specifications of common chisels, it can only be a custom chisel that this carpenter specially ordered from Takahiro Ⅰ Chisel Blacksmith. In my opinion, it is suitable for processing large wooden building structures, especially hardwood.
The wooden handle was replaced by Mr. Tsuchida Noboru. Please refer to this Twitter post: https://x.com/tsuchidahamono/status/1919176026049155527
The wooden handle was too thick before the replacement. After Mr. Tsuchida Noboru replaced the new wooden handle, it can transmit energy more effectively. The chisel's Kuchigane and ring are original but have been restored.
The “urasuki” part was made with the hand tool "sen", and the concave depth is more reasonable than that made with a grinder. Ideally, the depth of the “urasuki” concave should gradually increase from the top to the bottom of the blade. The last two pictures show the depth distribution of “Urasuki".
