Additional Information: It is unused and comes from the descendants of a retired carpenter in the Kanto region. It is a typical “usudukuri/薄造” (thin-make) blade. Judging from the remaining processing marks on the blade, only a rough file was used in the final shaping stage. I have given it a basic sharpening, with the bevel to 1000 grit and the ura side to 3000 grit.
During the sharpening process, although the soft iron is very soft, its texture is completely unlike modern soft iron, and its quality is similar to steel, only softer. Meanwhile, the steel gave me a feedback of a certain hardness during sharpening, but not as hard as Blue Steel; it is more like White Steel, but its toughness is far higher than White Steel, making it very likely to be Tamahagane.
