Additional Information: Used condition, sourced from a retired carpenter in the Tokyo area. I have resharpened it, finishing both the bevel and the ura to #1000 grit. During sharpening, the steel performed very well, likely being Shirogami No. 2 (White Paper Steel #2).
Although the maker of this chisel is not known at this time, its craftsmanship has left a deep impression on me. Both sides and the top of the blade have undergone concave processing using a traditional hand tool—the sen—ensuring that the chisel can be easily pulled out even when working in deep mortises.
The fine hand-filed marks left on the neck also offer a glimpse into the blacksmith’s high level of skill. Furthermore, the overall profile and styling of the neck strongly evoke the signature aesthetic of the renowned blacksmith lineage "Sukekuni" (助國).
