Additional Information: It has been carefully used over the years by a highly skilled carpenter and remains in great condition with plenty of working life ahead. I acquired it from the descendant of a Kansai-region miyadaiku (temple carpenter). I have already given it a fundamental sharpening: the bevel was finished on an Uchigumori natural stone, and the ura (back) was refined to around 3000 grit. The steel quality is outstanding; at its current bevel angle, I consider it best suited for softwoods and medium hardwoods. If you plan to work denser hardwoods, I would recommend steepening the bevel to 30 degrees or more.
Although this chisel bears a wholesaler's stamp (tonya-mei), details such as the selected materials, the lamination of the steel and soft iron, the lingering hand-file marks, the rustic shoulder contour, the crisp structural lines, and the chisel's profile silhouette (the gentle taper from neck to cutting edge, allowing for far more efficient force transfer). All make it unmistakably clear that this is the work of no ordinary blacksmith.
