Additional Information: Although this chisel has been used, it is in good condition and still has plenty of life left in it as a working tool. I did a repair sharpening, bevel to 1000 grit, ura to 3000 grit. This form/style of chisel has become very rare recently, making it highly likely a custom-made piece. It features a blade similar to an usu chisel (thin/paring chisel), but it is actually a chu-tataki chisel (medium striking chisel). Master carpenters owned a wide variety of chisels (tools) tailored for different specific tasks, which was a very common practice back in the era when blacksmiths were plentiful.
The chisel bears no blacksmith's mark, but the craftsmanship is quite good. It comes from the descendants of a retired Miyadaiku from Kamakura. The chisels from this Miya-daiku currently listed on the website are as follows:
